Parisian or Cowboy?

Late in December Jessica Quirk from What I Wore did a year in review of her 2011 looks. I’m sure it’s fun for her to look back at how she wore different items over the past year. I really enjoyed it because I didn’t stumble upon her blog until a few months ago. How on earth I didn’t know there were Fashion Bloggers out there? Oh the shame.

One of my favorite 2011 purchases was finally scoring a black and white striped tee. I feel it’s so versatile and adds fun to any outfit. While checking out Jessica’s January 2011 review I was drawn to two particular outfits; the ones with the black and white strip shirt. (You saw that coming right?) While I think the strip tee with the leopard skirt is super chic but I really loved the pairing with riding boots and pretty purple scarf.

The brightest scarf I own is red so I paired it with a pair of dark skinny jeans and grey riding boots. I totally thought I looked a little Oh-la-French but one of the fellas at work called me Cowboy all day. Hmm..

Tee: Charlotte Russe. Jeans: Forever21. Boots: Old Navy. Scarf: Charming Charlie.

Do you have a favorite garment that you wish you could wear everyday? I actually have a few pieces… But that would look just foolish.

Move over sweater tunics..

Last week Sydney at the Daybook posted this comfy outfit:

I fell in love with this look instantly (and of course pinned it). There is a lot of boot + leggings wearing in the winter for this girl! I found this combination of dress shirt with a chunky sweater to be a fresh take. I couldn’t wait to see how I could make it work with pieces from my closet:

Boots: Old Navy. Leggings: TJ Maxx. Tank: American Eagle. Dress shirt: Forever21. Sweater: H&M.

What’s your favorite winter look?

Oh you fancy huh

Earlier this week I skipped out of work a few hours early, picked up one of my best friends and headed to downtown Columbus for a very fun evening.

While it’s true most of what my husband does with work is completely over my head but I can tell you this- he’s wicked smart and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to his field of expertise.  In 2009, my husband won the Henry Marion Howe Medal and he won it again this year!

The Henry Marion Howe Medal is awarded to the author(s) of the best paper published Metallurgical and Materials Transactions. Oddly enough I remember the afternoon my husband decided he wanted to write this piece- he told me he was going to win an award for it. (Although I believe he was joking at the time)

Tuesday night my parents, my husband’s parents and one of my besties all got fancy dressed to attend the banquet award dinner. If you follow me on twitter, you might be aware that obtaining my attire for this event was a challenge- sparkly gowns come with a sparkly price tag. But a sparkly gown in my budget was found, followed by affordable 5.5” platform satin heels so my short statue could avoid dragging the dress on the ground all night. It’s tough not having long legs I tell ya!

We spent the evening eating, drinking and being merry. I’m so proud of my husband. I know his career is just starting and I’m honored to be by his side while he continues to achieve greatness in his field. I love you babe!
